Oasis launches Annual Appeal

The Institute of Medicine estimates that over 18,000 people in the U.S. die each year because they don’t have access to health insurance. There are currently 47 million uninsured Americans in the U.S. and this number is rising every year. The uninsured are more likely to become ill, disabled and die younger than those with insurance. It is to serve these people that the Oasis Health Network is in existence. Our patients are your friends and neighbors living at 150% of the poverty level, with no access to public or private insurance and in need of medical and/or dental care and/or prescription medication coverage. Without Oasis, many of these patients would either end up in our community emergency rooms or simply go without important and potentially life-saving medical services.
Based in Brunswick, Maine, the Oasis Health Network Inc. is committed to serving the uninsured living in the Greater Bath-Brunswick region. Our staff of over 90 clinical and clerical volunteers serves our patients at the Oasis Health Center, the Oasis Dental Clinic and in the Oasis Prescription Assistance Program, all at no cost. At our various clinics, Oasis offers treatment of acute medical and dental problems as well as offers health education and disease management. We also work closely with area hospitals to obtain free services like lab tests and imaging studies, and national pharmaceutical companies to obtain free prescriptions for our patients.
Just like our patients must turn to us for help, we must turn to you, to help us fund these important services and continue to make a difference and improve the health of our community. The Oasis Health Network Inc. depends solely on the generosity of businesses and individuals willing to support our cause. In 2006, we served over 1296 patients in our medical and dental clinics and were able to distribute more than 1 million dollars in prescriptions. In the past few years, while federal and state funded free-care services are being cut, we have been adding new services and patients all the time. But this will not continue if we are unable to raise the significant dollars needed to fund our efforts.
